From its modest beginnings in as a informal, one-day celebration at Walt Disney World at which gay and lesbian participants donned red shirts and traveled around the park together, Gay Days at Disney World—also known as Orlando Gay Days—has evolved into one of the world's foremost LGBTQ celebrations. It's also helped spawn an unrelated though similarly popular event in California each October, Gay Days Anaheim at Disneyland. Although neither Walt Disney World nor any of the parks or tourism organizations in greater Orlando actually produce this event, they do sanction and support this week-long series of social gatherings at the area's various theme parks and hotels as well as both circuit-style parties and concerts along with more laid-back revelry at countless venues throughout the region. More than , participants have attended Disney Gay Days in past years. You can obtain special Gay Days Orlando rates, which include admission to the hotel pool parties, here. The Margaritaville Resort is a complex featuring a hotel and cottages, shopping, dining, a waterpark, and an entertainment district.
Florida or bust: Memorial Day in Pensacola and Miami, Gay Days at Disney
"Gay Day" at Disney World is EVIL!
Orlando is a Southern town, but the entertainment industry and the theme parks have helped in the building of a strong gay and lesbian community. Same-sex dancing won't draw any unwelcome attention at clubs in the area such as those located at Universal's CityWalk or in downtown Orlando. The tenor of crowds can change, however, depending on what's going on in town, so respect your own intuition. The popularity of Orlando with gay and lesbian travelers has been confirmed by the expansion of the June "Gay Day" celebration at Disney World into a weekend event that includes Universal Orlando and SeaWorld.

Orlando, the theme park capital of the world, might not scream gay destination holiday on first thought — but away from the I-Drive hotel zone, you will actually find one of the most vibrant and LGBT-friendly cities in America! Vibrant communities, trendy neighborhoods and close proximity to fabulous beaches have created the perfect conditions for a distinctly cosmopolitan vibe to take hold, and today Gay Orlando has one of the most lively queer communities in the world with a distinctly Latin twist. Add to this the legendary theme parks and affordable travel options to get here and you will understand why Orlando is the number one travel destination in the USA and a growing gay destination holiday location. Orlandians stood together in the wake of the Pulse nightclub tragedy, and today the community is strong and the region more committed to inclusiveness and diversity than ever before. Rainbow flags and light displays still cover the city, Orlando Pride transforms the entire city and everybody has come together, united — providing that love will always prevail.
